We at SBSU want to be clear to our students about our commitment to being an inclusive and supportive community for all its members, regardless of their gender identity, and that has not been altered by the recent judgement by the Supreme Court.
We would like to share our heartfelt support for our Trans+ community, and everyone concerned by this news. We recognise the impact that this may have on a lot of you, so we would like to remind you that there are a number of support services available to you on our website.
We are proud of the safe and tolerant community we have at LSBU and expect all of our members will continue to treat each other with dignity and respect, and to offer support and solidarity to anyone who may experience discrimination or be feeling hurt or unsettled by the recent ruling.
If you would like to talk to someone, you can always have a confidential conversation with one of the LSBU Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisors. This can be a quick chat, or a longer appointment - whatever feels most helpful for you. This is a space to talk through what's going on and to get information about resources available, including counselling if this is what you want. Book an appointment through MyAccount, or find out more here.
You can also always access support on Togetherall, an anonymous, safe, online peer community where you can give and get support from people with similar experiences to you. You can express yourself with words or images, without any fear of judgement. Sign up for free with your LSBU email address, or find out more here: What is Togetherall?
All of us have a role to play in promoting a respectful and safe community, and if you ever witness or experience any disrespectful or discriminatory behaviour towards students or staff, whether online or in person, you do not have to tolerate it and we encourage you to tell us so we can make sure you are supported. You can do so via our Report and Support webpage, which also includes other helpful resources. A specialist member of staff will contact you to provide further information and support.
